It has quite some interesting functionality:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ES8311 Codec <strong>DAC<\/strong> Chip<\/li>\n<li>ES7210 Codec <strong>ADC<\/strong> Chip with stereo microphones<\/li>\n<li><strong>SD Card<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>6 <strong>Neopixel<\/strong> Multicolor LEDs<\/li>\n<li>A PCF85063A <strong>Real Time Clock<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>3 <strong>User Definable Keys<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>GPIO interface<\/li>\n<li>camera interface<\/li>\n<li>lcd interface<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ESP32-S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"366\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6954\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ESP32-S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ESP32-S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ESP32-S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/ESP32-S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This week I got this board in my mailbox and I expected it to be quite easy to be added to my <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-driver\">Audio Driver<\/a> project:<\/p>\n<p>Oh boy, was I wrong!<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 <strong>stumbling block<\/strong> was, that a <strong>TCA9555 port extender<\/strong> was used for some critcal pins, so they can&#8217;t be addressed with the regular Arduino digitalWrite() and digitalRead() and without this, there is <strong>no DAC<\/strong> output, <strong>no working SD<\/strong> drive and <strong>no user keys: <\/strong>The detail pinout information can be found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-driver\/wiki\/ESP32%E2%80%90S3-AI-Smart-Speaker-Development-Board#pins\">Wiki of the AudioDriver project<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After extending both the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-tools\">AudioTools<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-driver\">AudioDriver<\/a> projects I have it <strong>finally working quite nicely now.\u00a0<\/strong>So if you want to use this board as described, don&#8217;t forget to install the latest versions of these projects. For your reference: Here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-driver\/blob\/main\/src\/ESP32S3AISmartSpeaker.h\">source code<\/a> of the board definition for <em><strong>ESP32S3AISmartSpeaker<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 which might be helpful if you find some other unsupporte boards.<\/p>\n<h5>Examples<\/h5>\n<p>You can find the examples that demonstrate how to use this board in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-tools\/tree\/main\/examples\/examples-custom-boards\/esp32-s3-ai-smart-speaker\">this examples folder of the AudioTools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After you understand how things are working you should be able to adapt all <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/arduino-audio-tools\/tree\/main\/examples\">other examples<\/a> as well just by replacing the AudioSource or Sink with a <em><strong>AudioBoardStream board(ESP32S3AISmartSpeaker); <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I found the ESP32\u2010S3 AI Smart Speaker Development Board on Aliexpress for around 15 USD.
