{"id":6673,"date":"2025-04-09T11:29:43","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T09:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/home\/?p=6673"},"modified":"2025-04-10T07:55:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T05:55:42","slug":"http-live-streaming-hls-with-the-arduino-audio-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/home\/2025\/04\/09\/http-live-streaming-hls-with-the-arduino-audio-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"A Http Live Streaming (HLS) Player with the Arduino Audio Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/home\/2021\/10\/14\/a-simple-streaming-mp3-player\/\">http streaming<\/a> we can just read a single audio stream and feed it to a decoder.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunatly <strong>Http Live Streaming (HLS)<\/strong> adds a lot of additional complexity and overhead. It works by splitting an audiostream into <strong>very short segments<\/strong>, which are just a few seconds in length, and then serving these segments over HTTP or HTTPS.  This list of available segments is published in a <strong>playlist file (.m3u8)<\/strong>, which contains a URL for each recent segment. The short segments can contain <strong>MP3<\/strong>, <strong>AAC<\/strong> or very often AAC wrapped in <strong>MPEG-TS (MTS)<\/strong>.
