However I find the C SDK not very friendly and I prefer to have something as simple as the Arduino API. I did not want to wait for the official Arduino support &#8211; so I started <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/pico-arduino\">my own project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The last couple of days I tried to wrap my head around the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hathach\/tinyusb\">TinyUSB Midi<\/a> support in order to provide some simple C++ class to use the <strong>Pico as USB Midi Device<\/strong>. There is one big caveat in using TinyUSB &#8211; as soon as you add the relevant libraries, you loose your serial output to USB. For me it was only working when I also added the <strong>&#8220;pico_fix_rp2040_usb_device_enumeration&#8221;<\/strong> library. I found this in the examples provided by TinyUSB.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a FTDI device and want to see debug log messages as serial output you can activate the logging by adding the following line.<\/p>\n<pre><code>add_compile_options(-DCFG_TUSB_DEBUG=3 )\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>The default Tx pin is on GPIO0.<\/p>\n<p>The basic processing logic of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hathach\/tinyusb\/tree\/master\/examples\/device\/midi_test\">the example provided by TinyUSB<\/a> looks as follows:<\/p>\n<pre><code>\/*------------- MAIN -------------*\/\nint main(void)\n{\n  board_init();\n  tusb_init();\n\n  while (1)\n  {\n    tud_task(); \/\/ tinyusb device task\n    led_blinking_task();\n    midi_task();\n  }\n  return 0;\n}\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>On top of that, you need to provide implementations for all relevant callbacks and settings.<br \/>\nI tried to wrap as much as possible into the USBMidi C++ class. The begin() method is calling the board_init() and tusb_init()  . It is critical that the <code>tud_task()<\/code> method is called in short intervalls &#8211; so I moved it to a repeating Timer.<br \/>\nMy <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pschatzmann\/pico-arduino\/tree\/main\/Arduino\/USB\/midi\">implementation of the MIDI functionality<\/a> can be found on github.<\/p>\n<p>After installing the sketch on the Pico it shows up as Midi Divice: On OS\/X e.g. it appears automatically in the Midi Manager as active device:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-15-at-11.18.39-300x126.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"126\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-15-at-11.18.39-300x126.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-15-at-11.18.39.png 673w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am quite enthusiastic about the new Raspberry Pico.
