This Microcontroller is the perfect choice because<br \/>\n&#8211; it supports <strong>enough analog input pins<\/strong> (we need at least 4)<br \/>\n&#8211; We can use <strong>Bluetooth or UDP<\/strong> as Communication Protocol out of the box<br \/>\n&#8211; It can be programmed with the <strong>Arduino<\/strong> IDE &#8211; so this is pretty simple to use.<\/p>\n<p>I used the following components<\/p>\n<h3>Joystick<\/h3>\n<p>I am using the <strong>X2K2 Joystick from www.YwRobot.net<\/strong> as my input device:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1584\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc1.jpg 934w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nIf the device&#8217;s VCC is powered with 3V we can use the analog read from the ESP32 to get the actual position. Here is the overview of all the pins mapped to the corresponding function:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VCC &lt;- 3.3V <\/li>\n<li>GND &lt;- GND<\/li>\n<li>S-X1 (Throttle)<\/li>\n<li>S-Y1 (Rudder)<\/li>\n<li>S-K1 (Aux2)<\/li>\n<li>SWA (Gear)<\/li>\n<li>SWB (Aux1)<\/li>\n<li>S-X2 (Elevator)<\/li>\n<li>S-Y2 (Aileron)<\/li>\n<li>S-K2 (Aux3)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Power Supply<\/h3>\n<p>I am using a <strong>18650 Battery<\/strong> together with a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.banggood.com\/ESP32S-ESP32-0_5A-Micro-USB-Charger-Board-18650-Battery-Charging-Shield-without-Battery-p-1395271.html?rmmds=myorder&amp;cur_warehouse=CN\">charger board<\/a><\/strong> as power source.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc2.jpg 868w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Switch<\/h3>\n<p>To be able to switch the device <strong>on<\/strong> and <strong>off<\/strong> I add an additional <strong>switch<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc3.jpg 868w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>ESP32 and Jumper Cables<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc4.jpg 868w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ESP32 will be connected to the Joystick with simple <strong>Dupont Jumper Cables<\/strong>. I will use the following connections:<\/p>\n<p>D13: Throttle -> S-X1<br \/>\n  D12: Aileron -> S-Y2<br \/>\n  D14: Elevator -> S-X2<br \/>\n  D27: Rudder -> S-Y1<br \/>\n  D26: Gear -> SWA<br \/>\n  D25: Aux1 -> SWB<br \/>\n  D33: Aux2 -> S-K1<br \/>\n  D32: Aux3 -> S-K2<\/p>\n<p>And I need to connect it to the power:<br \/>\n  VIN: -> 5V (of Power Supply)<br \/>\n  GND: -> GND (of Power Supply)<\/p>\n<h3>3D Printed Case<\/h3>\n<p>The case was modelled in <strong>OpenSCAD<\/strong> and is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thingiverse.com\/thing:4587659\">Thingiverse<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc5-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/rc5.jpg 868w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Software<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>ESP32<\/strong> will be programmed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arduino.cc\/\">Arduino IDE<\/a>.
