Unfortunately this is not true for 3D file formats.<\/p>\n<p>To close this gap, I decided to implement a simple <a href=\"https:\/\/jupyterlab.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/developer\/extension_dev.html\">Mime Renderer for Jupyterlab<\/a> using the powerfull functionality of <a href=\"https:\/\/threejs.org\/\">Three.js.<\/a> Though other file formats might work as well, I was setting the focus on STL files.<\/p>\n<p>This extension can be installed directly from the Jupyterlab Extension Manager by searching for \u00a0<strong>stl<\/strong> or from the command line by calling<\/p>\n<p><code>jupyter\u00a0labextension\u00a0install\u00a0jupyterlab-viewer-3d<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/stl-viewer-300x167.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"501\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1078\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/stl-viewer-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pschatzmann.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/stl-viewer.png 1437w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0STL\u00a0(Standard Triangle Language) is the industry standard\u00a0file\u00a0type for\u00a03D Printing.
